The wedding traditions of Tlemcen, Algeria are unique in how integral the practices are and how things are set up. The materials and objects used in this costume is due to a relationship with the theology, believing that certain objects can purify, ward off evil spirits, and entice good luck. Ahellil, a mix of poetry, polyphonic chant, music, and dance, is performed at some of these weddings. The traditional Tlemcen dance has changed in the past 200 years as society has changed cultural age norms. The cultural practices are used to connect society in celebration.
